It’s September. Let’s Start Here.

Are you still keepin’ the dream alive? I am. At least in my head. And I hope you are, too.

You see, even though some people look at the fall as the beginning of the end, I perk up and say to myself, “there’s still time to get it all done!” (Cue the optimistic side of me honed via my eight years as a cheerleader way back when.) And then, not unlike the squirrels that are so busy this time of year running, jumping, flying from branch to branch to find that best acorn ever, I tend to over-believe in myself and in what I can still accomplish in the few short months left in this year.

Sigh.

These are not squirrels they are actual people, busy because they have just realized it’s September and the countdown has begun to finish all those unfinished projects before the year ends. Oh. My.

So, what’s on your fall “let’s get it done!” list? Okay, I’ll go first.

  • Clean my office garage house closet. Well, I think you get the picture here. The list is endless.
  • Reach out to all my friends and family members that haven’t heard from me in a month while year or more . Ditto from above thought.
  • Decorate for fall. Now that’s one I can at least wrap my head around right now, especially since the color orange makes me happy!
  • Organize everything, or at least all those things that didn’t get organized back in January when everyone else was busy organizing everything. I’m always late to the party on this one.
  • Yadda. Yadda. Yadda.

So, you see my dilemma, right? I mean, I perk up because it’s fall and there’s all that energy in the air! And then I realize I might possibly have waited a tad long to FILL IN THE BLANK (start writing that next book/get my act together before it’s entirely too late/make 2022 the year that I will positively definitely. . .). But then again I do still believe in keepin’ the dream alive, so off I go to start a new project or maybe, possibly even finish one already begun. Like this blog post.

And the days dwindle down
To a precious few
September, November
And these few precious days
I spend with you
These precious days
I spend with you

From September Song, written by Kurt Weill and Maxwell Anderson

(And if you’re old enough, go ahead and pause for a minute while you remember Andy Williams singing that beautiful ode to September.)

And there you have it. My short and sweet salute to September because gosh, I’ve got to get busy right now!
