Remember Travel?

NOTE: This post is coronavirus free. You’re welcome.

I sure do, and I’m betting you do, too. And I’m also guessing you remember some of your former travel adventures quite fondly, especially when you pull out those memory-invoking travel photos snapped while positioned in just the right spot in front of well, name your spot.

Like this one:

Yep, that’s me in front of The Arc du Triumph in Paris, 2013.

Or this one:

And believe it or not, that’s a much younger version on me taken in 1978 (yes, our trip was ground breaking in that year) with my [then] boss standing on the Great Wall of China.

Well good news people because despite the current world situation that has found most of us temporarily and most likely unwillingly housebound, #travelawaits!

In fact, I say let’s start to revisit travel right now by pulling out those photo albums and challenge yourself to remember the sights and sounds and unique memories you made while snapping those pix. To get you started on this journey, read on and travel with me as I share a few more fun photos from places that told me stories as I ventured out and explored life in foreign places.

So, remember that oft repeated phrase from your travel days of not so distant past, “Ladies and Gentlemen, please fasten your seat belts as we prepare for takeoff”? Well let’s do that right now altogether, and on this trip, I promise no turbulence ahead.

This will look familiar to those who have been on the island of Capri off the Amalfi Coast of Italy. Yes, it’s a bit terrifying and breathtaking, all in one memorable ride. HINT: don’t look for me in this one. Gosh no! I was hanging on for dear life (and my IPhone) as I snapped this one while on the ascent.

And here’s a fun photo taken while husband and I were exploring Sicily. We took a tour that was actually called, “In the footsteps of the Godfather.” Not kidding! Who would have thought that in the very place were the Mafia supposedly originated, the current Italian population would be able to profit from and poke a little fun at that questionable bit of their own personal history?

This was taken in the historical Bar Vitelli, and yes, The Godfather, aka Marlon Brando, actually sat at this table during filming.

Here’s an aerial view of a toboggan run that I rode on in Labadee, Haiti. Why, you ask? I guess, um, just because?

I took this photo from a ground view before I actually got on it, and if you look closely you can see a toboggan making the curve; and if you could hear it, the person in that sled was screaming. Yes, it was fun and definitely something different!

Continuing with my outdoor activity theme, here’s a telling shot of me right before I started out on a mountain bike excursion in Croatia. It was definitely a trip to remember, and you can read more about it here.

Yes, you read that correctly. Me. Mountain bike. Croatia. Oh. My!

Moving back inside to more civil activities, here’s a great one from an exceptional Chef’s Table event we attended while on board the Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas. And PS – if you’ve never signed up for a Chef’s Table event you are missing one of the best nights of any cruise. Witness the amount of wine glasses below.

Yes, the wine was flowing but also the conversation with our small and select group of passengers was fascinating. Plus, the Executive Chef cooks much of it right before your eyes and the Sommelier provides detailed commentary throughout every course. Take a close look at the wine aerator they used because that alone captivated all of us during every pour throughout the evening.

Next up take a look at this adorable guy, a pix I snapped while touring around in Sydney, Australia in 2019. Do you see what I see?

Yes, this little critter was sound asleep while hanging in the tree. Dare I say his ‘koalaties are adorable”?

Finally, I’m closing with one of my all time favorite trip photos. I mean, what’s not to love about spending an afternoon on a sailboat? Oh and, this sailboat happened to be from an actual America’s Cup Regatta.

Not that it matters, but I’m third from the right, hand held high, big silly smile. This pix brings back wonderfully warm memories from a near perfect day spent on the gorgeous waters around Cozumel.

So, I hope you enjoyed that little photo travel trip of memories from my many years of journeying. And just think, you went with me from Paris to China to Australia and Mexico with stops in Italy, Haiti and Croatia. Just by reading this blog. I’m a firm believer that in order to travel ‘there’ – wherever that is for you – it begins ‘right here’ in your own thoughts, dreams, and imagination.

I also believe that #travelwillcomeback, so let’s stabilize this aircraft and move on!

  1. Hi Terry,

I hope you’re doing ok. These are some great reminders of why we travel–the people, the experiences, the memories. I can’t wait to get moving again and to try launching my women’s tour company again. Perhaps I’ll see you on the road. Take care of yourself.

    1. Thanks so much, Carole, and great to hear from you again! I am doing fine but like so many others itching to get back on the road again as I know you are, too. Here’s hoping you remain healthy [wherever you currently are] and sane while we weather the storm, and I’m confident there will be brighter travel days ahead for all of us!
